Imagine that you can create anything your heart desires. Anything. All you have to do is visualise it, write it down somewhere, and give it your positive, focused attention everyday. It sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?
Many of us live with the belief, ‘I know exactly what I want, I just don’t have enough money, love, or support to create it.’ We are convinced that our circumstances are preventing us from having exactly what we want. We are so entrenched in our roles that we don’t feel like we are the masters of our own destiny. We become victims to our lives, our routines, and our relationships. We think that our life situations are preventing us from having what we want.
I think it’s a bit more complicated than that. I have a suspicion that many of us don’t even know exactly what we desire. When we are pressed on exactly what would make our lives better, our answers are often vague: ‘more freedom, more money, more holidays, more fun, more joy, more peace…’ Basically, we want more of what’s good in our life, and less of the bad.
The trick is, we can only have what we specifically request from ourselves. When we ask for more peace, more joy or more money, it isn’t clear enough. We need to ask, for example, for one yoga class per week, or a promotion to partnership, or to move to another city, or to go out dancing every Friday night. These desires are understandable and achievable. These are things that can be focused on, worked towards, and measured.
So here’s the big question: what exactly do you desire? Write down 3 specific things that will instantly make your life better if you do them every week. Then write down 3 specific things that you would like to achieve in the next five years.
After you write them down, keep them somewhere prominent where you will see them everyday (beside your bed, at your desk, in your wallet, on your phone). Once we start this dialogue with ourselves, our lives change. We start to realise that every factor in our life is our own doing.
This is the beginning of freedom.
